In case you were curious, here is the list of things in my portait.
Here is my ad for the Sydney Opera House production of This Is Our Youth. If you happen to be in Sydney march 14th through 25th be sure to check it out.
This was probably the easiest and most fruitful celebrity shoot I have had yet. Everyone was very happy and a pleasure to work with. I had all the talent for an ample amount of time and there were no agents or managers to tip toe around. Both of these things are a rarity amongst celebrity photography. Once everyone saw the set they knew they were in good hands to make an amazing picture. Special thanks to Collins Schude for help on the set, Megan Mouren for help with styling and Heather O’Boyle for doing makeup and hair.
Shot at the forge
Here is a film outtake from my Spring 12 shoot with Raven Denim. I shot this on one of my favorite cameras, the Nikon L35AF. This mass produced camera was the first autofocus point and shoot ever made. It was such a blast working that day back in August. We had a expensive location, three models, two amazing assistants, makeup, stylists the whole nine yards. It was the kind of shoot that photographers dream about. Especially shooting the great Melinda Rader, seen here. I look forward to our fall shoot coming up on my birthday Jan 15th, is there a better way to spend your birthday? I don’t think so. The rollerskating party will just have to be postponed.
This is Duc from the Vietnam National Opera & Ballet. I photographed him in Hanoi on the second day of our trip. Previous to leaving America I had the foresight of setting up a fixer to help gain access to interesting portraits. One of the many ideas my crew (http://noipictures.com/) had was the National Ballet practice space. So we planned on that for the first of four locations that day. We met early, had a Cafe Su Da and made our war to the drab and dirty arts building the national Ballet called home. I found some amazing french doors were the members would take their cigarette breaks and set up for that. Again pushing 15th of a second I began to make portraits. I first called over some of the girls and then finally settled on this man. I love his form and obvious vietnamese character. He was the best based on the contrast of his body and shorts against the architecture behind. I could have shot there all day, but we had a schedule to maintain. Off to the next location after just 4 rolls.
This is another typical day in this innocent girls life, yet for me was the most untypical day imaginable. It started out with renting Motorbikes and driving out to the Mi Son ancient ruins about an hour outside of where we were staying. On our drive we saw a wedding, funeral, terrible motor bike accident, and a local family tried to sell me one of their 10 year old daughters. Now I’m not saying that this has anything to do with this picture, but there is something so sensitive and innocent about this girl. It leads me to wonder if my motivation to stop and capture this image had anything to do with my day experience.
